HIMALAB

by Ecorevive Research & Innovation

Bridging the gap between ancestral soil and advanced science.

What They're Building

HIMALAB by Ecorevive Research and Innovation is an AI-powered formulation and quality control platform built for Nepal's herbal and bio-active manufacturing sector. It helps producers, formulators, and exporters create validated product formulations based on the exact geographic origin of their ingredients, maintain consistent batch quality, and generate the regulatory documents required for entering international markets.

Nepal's terrain creates extreme variation in microclimate across very short distances. The same herb species harvested at 2,800 metres in Dolpa will have a measurably different chemical composition than the same species harvested at 4,200 metres in Mustang. HIMALAB is the first platform that treats harvest location as a mandatory and foundational input, not an optional detail.

The Problem

  1. Most R&D is still trial-and-error on anonymous raw material, making results non-reproducible, scientifically weak, and disconnected from the real origin characteristics of the herbs.
  2. Critical geo-botanical provenance data (altitude, slope aspect, season, soil, district) is not captured or linked to batches, even though it drives phytochemical uniqueness and should be a core input for formulation.
  3. Manufacturers hit a "knowledge wall": they lack access to precise chemical formulations, standardized stability testing methods, and export-grade quality and regulatory know-how.
  4. Existing scientific work by NARC and NAST remains stuck at identification and phytochemical research, with no translation layer that converts this data into factory-ready protocols, real-time QC tools, and regulatory documents.
  5. Nepal is exporting crude herbs instead of science-backed finished products, so most biodiversity value and economic upside is captured by foreign processors and brands.

The Breakthrough

  1. Location-Aware Input Engine: Requires district, altitude, slope aspect, harvest season, and soil type before any formulation output — ensuring every recommendation is tied to the exact origin of each ingredient batch.
  2. Formula Vault: A proprietary database of geo-tagged formulation protocols linked to altitude bands and district-level source profiles, built from NARC and NAST data plus manufacturing feedback.
  3. QC Tracker: A mobile-first interface for factory floors that logs temperature, pH, viscosity, and microbial counts, flagging deviations against source-specific baselines.
  4. Regulatory Bridge: Auto-generates Certificates of Analysis and regulatory dossiers aligned with FDA 21 CFR, EU 1223/2009, and ASEAN ASPC, embedding geo-botanical provenance as a traceability element.
  5. AI Formulator: Trained on global cosmetic/pharma chemistry plus Nepal-specific phytochemical profiles, predicting interactions, suggesting local substitutions, and flagging instability risks.

Proof of Seriousness

  1. Field Research: Interviews conducted with manufacturers and field harvesters across multiple altitude zones and districts, with field documentation of microclimate-linked phytochemical variation completed in soapnut and chiuri seed (Illam, Baitadi, Chitwan).
  2. Scientific Grounding: Formulation logic is grounded in NARC MAP research and NAST phytochemical investigation outputs, with a ligand database developed during research.
  3. Regulatory Mapping: Preliminary mapping of FDA 21 CFR and EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 requirements for Nepali-origin ingredients and provenance traceability completed.
  4. Ecosystem Partnerships: Ongoing conversations with Nepal Herbs and Herbal Products Association (NEHPA); early engagement with FAO, UNDP, and local cooperatives; mentored by leaders from CNIYEF.
STAGE: Deep-Tech R&D Prototype
MARKET: Nepal + Global Herbal Export

Why Seeding & Scaling Innovations

HIMALAB by Ecorevive Research and Innovation is a direct example of what Seeding and Scaling Innovations aims to support: taking rigorous scientific and regulatory standards from developed markets and rebuilding them for the specific conditions of a developing economy with extraordinary natural assets. Nepal has botanical research institutions in NARC and NAST, world-class raw materials distributed across some of the most biodiverse terrain on earth, and a manufacturing sector ready to grow — but currently blocked by a missing layer of formulation intelligence and quality infrastructure. HIMALAB is that missing layer.

The Ask

Ecorevive is seeking manufacturing partners and data collaborations with NARC and NAST to co-develop and validate location-specific Himalayan formulations. They also welcome regulatory, laboratory, incubation, and funding partners to help build the export-compliance pipeline and scale the HIMALAB platform.
